Michigan State Recruit Body Slams Security Guard
A video filmed by a Cass Tech student shows 2015 MSU commit, Jayru Campbell, assaulting a security officer in the school hallway. Campbell was arrested shortly after and was held in police custody before being released Friday. It’s unknown whether or not MSU head coach Mark Dantonio will pull Campbell’s scholarship offer.
This was not Campbell’s first incident, during Cass Tech’s loss in the state semifinals last season against Novi Detroit Catholic Central, the junior is seen punching a player from the opposing team before being taken to the ground by a Cass Tech coach to prevent further damage.
With Campbell’s recent issues, it’s unclear if he will be able to continue playing football at Cass Tech or any other Detroit Public School again. He’ll be able to enroll at another school district if he’s ineligible, but it’s unknown who will take the troubling quarterback.
According to ESPN.com’s Recruiting Nation, Campbell is an “explosive athlete with big-play ability out of a dual-threat role. Shows a good burst outside the pocket and can make plays with his feet. Has good height with a lean frame that will support that should fill out well. Ideal guy for the spread offense and dangerous when on the move.”
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to provide an update of the status of the case as early as next week.
