Antoine Griezmann, France forward, backtracks over 'insensitive' blackface tweet

French global footballer Antoine Griezmann has attracted criticism after posting an image of himself in a fancy dress outfit on his Twitter account.

The professional footballer, who plays internationally for France and as a forward for Atlético Madrid, showed off his costume on Twitter earlier today.

Griezmann, who is white, had his face and limbs painted black and was also wearing a wig and holding a basketball in the photo. He's wearing an National Basketball Association 1969 All-Stars uniform.

However, in the end, the backlash proved too much, with Griezmann forced to delete the post across his social media platforms.
