President Donald Trump did the right thing in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said Dershowitz, as it "struck the balance that President [Barack] Obama had undone when he changed the status quo at the end of his presidency by declaring the Western Wall, the Jewish quarter".

Despite the threats by Trump, 128 countries supported the resolution, with 35 abstaining and 9 voting against it. Trump's threat appears to have had some kind of impact with multiple countries like Australia abstaining from the vote.

Nauert said at a press conference in Washington that the president, Donald Trump, "granted power" to the State Department to study possible responses to the outcome of the United Nations vote.

The United States (U.S.) has dealt a major blow to the finances of the United Nations (UN) after the country's Ambassador to the organisation Nikki Haley announced a historic reduction in its biennial operating budget. Peters argued that the UN vote was an unimportant "tantrum" that the UN does all the time, no threats by the US would make Muslim nations vote with the USA and that the threat to cut funding was "ill-advised" and the US won't follow through on it.

"Everybody tells me who knows McCabe and has worked in the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he is a very decent guy and was an excellent deputy director", said Dershowitz.

"Well, we're watching those votes", he added. Key US allies like Jordan, Egypt and Iraq voted for the resolution despite being large recipients of military or economic support from the US.

Dershowitz said he also believes more countries will decide to move their embassies to Jerusalem following Trump's action. "We don't care", the President said at the time.

Separatists as well as mainstream politicians here welcomed the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Jerusalemthat called upon United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Trump didn't set any timetable for moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and neither did Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales.

In his December 6 announcement recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Trump said the USA would begin preparations to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

. No such steps should be allowed that would hamper peace and stability in the Middle East and deprive the people of Palestine of their rights."India has traditionally and consistently considered East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and India's support to the UNGA resolution re-affirms that stand and commitment".
