The Powerball jackpot is $440 million, and Mega Millions is up to $343 million. At the next drawing Tuesday, lottery players will have a shot to snag $361 million.

According to a Sunday news release from the Iowa Lottery, someone bought a Powerball ticket in Iowa worth $1 million. The cash option on the prize is an estimated $225.9 million.

And Americans do love buying lottery tickets.

That makes it more likely for the grand total to roll into the next drawing.

Only once before in history have two United States of America lottery jackpots been simultaneously greater than $300 million, and that occurred in August 2017.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since someone won at $42 million dollar jackpot on October 13. Three players from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland split the jackpot. The numbers drawn were: 4 - 10 - 18 - 28 - 62, MB 7 Megaplier 2X.

One ticket, which was sold in Florida, matched the five white balls to win $1 million on Friday.

Indeed, Business Insider looked at the similarly large jackpots before last weekend's drawings and concluded that, even though the headline prizes are getting pretty big, the math suggests buying a ticket is not a winning bet.

There was also no victor in Saturday night's Powerball drawing, which puts Wednesday night's jackpot at about $440 million.
