Comedian Jerry Van Dyke Dies at 86

Van Dyke's wife, Shirley, told the site he passed away Friday, two years after a debilitating vehicle accident injured them both.

Danville native Jerry Van Dyke died Friday at his ranch in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, according to the Associated Press.

Van Dyke married Shirley Jones of Glen Rose in 1984 and bought a ranch in Hot Spring County. Though an exact cause of death is unknown, the actor is said to have been involved in a vehicle accident two years ago from which he never truly recovered.

Jerry received four consecutive Emmy nominations for the part.

Jerry also appeared on The Dick Van Dyke show alongside his brother, as well as on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Judy Garland Show.

A beloved comedian just like his brother, Jerry pursued stand-up as a young man and performed at military bases around the world.

He is survived by his older brother Dick Van Dyke as well as numerous children and grandchildren.
