Donald Trump cancels his trip to London, blames Obama

The US president blamed Barack Obama for his decision, for selling the old embassy site for "peanuts, only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars".

Meanwhile, London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, appeared rather pleased about the decision.

The new USA embassy is in the Nine Elms area of Wandsworth, London, rather than the famous central London Mayfair location of the current one.

As recently as 7 January, UK prime minister Theresa May reiterated a state visit was still planned, saying "Trump is coming to the UK".

The leader of Wandsworth Council has hit back at Donald's Trump claim that the new American embassy has been moved to an "off-location".

"Let's hope that Donald Trump also resists the pursuit of his divisive agenda".

Mrs May controversially extended the offer of a state visit when she became the first world leader to meet Mr Trump in the White House following his inauguration a year ago.
