Amazon Prime Exclusive phones will no longer feature ads

As a user, it would be very hard to identify which app was displaying lock-screen apps, since any game or app would technically be able to take over the lock screen.

Starting tomorrow, Amazon Prime Exclusive Android smartphones will not have lock screen ads and offers anymore.

And while the devices will still be discounted from their list price, Amazon has said that it will increase the prices of all current phones in the Prime Exclusive portfolio by $20. The same thing goes for speedy fingerprint sensors.

Almost two years ago, Amazon launched its Prime Exlusive program with discounted prices on smartphones for those who accepted lockscreen ads and offers. Here's the full statement.

Amazon says that it's removing lockscreen ads to facilitate the use of fast unlocking technologies like fingerprint sensors and facial recognitions that have more or less made the lockscreen somewhat obsolete.

Prime Exclusive Phones will continue to be offered exclusively for Prime members with discounted prices and will be available unlocked, giving customers the freedom and flexibility to choose the wireless carrier and service that best fits their need.

However, customers will have to bear with Amazon's pre-installed apps which include Prime Music and Prime Video. Of course, you'll still be left with Amazon's Android apps, a dedicated widget, and a few notifications that all show adverts, but at least you won't be greeted by them every time you check your phone. Essentially, it means that Amazon Prime members can now buy certain Android phones for a lower cost than nearly anywhere else, without the compromise of dealing with Amazon ads on their lock screens.
