The update introduces a new family Play Time Management feature, the ability to upload custom wallpapers via USB, enhancements to notifications and the Quick Menu, and more.
One of the key features included is Play Time Management which allows users to set limits on when and for how long an individual child can play for. In addition, the family manager/guardians can choose whether or not to automatically log the child out of their PS4 once their playtime is over. This allows you to track time played and set daily time limits, even from a PC or smartphone.
PS4 Pro owners will be ecstatic to see a new "supersampling mode" under Settings, enabling those with HDTVs (i.e., 1080p or less) to enjoy an enhanced visual experience when playing certain games on their PS4.

Additionally, the PS4's library UI will see a number of much-needed updates, including two new tabs "to make it easier for you to see which apps you've installed and purchased".
Another section of the library allows you to see what games you now own through PlayStation Plus, keeping in mind that you'll lose access to said games should your subscription lapse. It lets you go take PS4 games online, but it also gives subscribers free games each month. If the game is no longer accessible because your PSN subscription lapses, a PS Plus symbol will appear on the game with a lock to note that the game is no longer accessible. Following this, Sony details several of the UI improvements coming in Update 5.50, starting with a "This PS4" tab that lists all applications installed on a PS4, and a tab with players' names/avatars showing all apps purchased with their PSN ID.
Have you downloaded the new PS4 update yet? As we previously reported, this includes a custom Tournaments team page that can be found in the Events sections, as well as Supersampling for everyone with a PS4 Pro and no 4K TV. You can zoom and crop the image before saving it as your background, so no need to fiddle with dimensions or resolution beforehand.

With the launch of 5.50, you'll be able to access custom friends' lists directly from the Quick Menu.
If you're using Spotify on PlayStation Music, the "square" button will serve as the shortcut for volume control. Xbox One added play limits previous year with the Creators Update, and the Xbox One X hardware has been able to supersample games since last November.
