Apple's iBoot Source Code Got Leaked - A Fastboot for iOS Devices

Apple responded by filing a copyright takedown request with GitHub shortly after the breach, all but confirming that the leaked code was genuine.

"On the other hand, if this does result in more exploits, we'll end up with more secure devices in the long term as Apple fixes the discovered vulnerabilities".

The codes in question pertain to the "iBoot" process of iOS.

But then, it was posted again to GitHub this week, which is when things snowballed to where they are now, with Apple ordering GitHub to remove the code. Arxan Technologies VP of product, Rusty Carter says iBoot's leak could potentially allow hackers to find security holes in the smartphone, enabling them to analyse Apple's code, replicating and manipulating it for malicious goal.

It is also the same reason the code could be so important for the hacking community who are always on the lookout for vulnerabilities and loop holes in operating systems. In summary, it is the program that loads iOS, and is the first program that runs when an iOS device is booted up.

Apple has confirmed that some of the source code for its iOS mobile operating system has been leaked online.

But even as 2018 kicked off with soaring stocks and subdued volatility, signs of complacency in short-vol land had cropped up. In other words, the ratio reveals how effective the firm is at turning shareholder investment into company profits.

Andy Kays, chief technology officer at British cybersecurity firm Redscan, told Sky News: "The release of the iBoot code demonstrates that vendors can't take it for granted that source code will always remain hidden".

It is reported that Apple has in the past been reluctant to release source code to the public, although it has made certain parts of iOS and MacOS open source in recent years.

The source code for a core component of the iPhone's operating system was posted to the software development platform GitHub; drawing a quick response from the tech giant. Although the source was only available for a short time, it's likely that hundreds of people viewed and downloaded the material while it was available. The leaked code contained information on the iPhone's boot up process and its security measures.
