Pres. Trump endorses Mitt Romney for Senate

In a 2016 speech, Romney called Trump a "phony, a fraud", who was "playing the members of the United States public for suckers" as Trump ran for president. The news was shocking because Romney did everything possible to ensure Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton. He pointed to the discussions Romney and Trump had about the Secretary of State position - Trump was reportedly considering Romney as a candidate for that job - and the private dinner they shared in NY after Trump won the election.

"MittRomney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah".

After Trump's victory, the two enjoyed a brief rapprochement when Romney attended a dinner with the president-elect to discuss becoming secretary of state.

Romney officially announced his Senate run on Friday with a video that took shots at Washington while praising Utah's fiscal restraint and embrace of immigrants. Trump has also called Romney "one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics" and a "dope".

"I think that's going to be a problem".
