Forbes names Amazon CEO world's richest man

At the top of the list for the first time is Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.

The biggest ever one-year gain.

At the second place is former world's richest man and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, with his wealth at $90 billion. Sy has led the country's billionaires for 10 years in a row.

Gates is worth an estimated $90 billion, up from $86 billion past year, according to Forbes.

The list is published in Forbes's latest edition under the headline "The super-rich continue to get richer, widening the gap between them and everyone else".

USA investor Warren Buffett rounded out the top three with an estimated fortune of $US84 billion ($107 billion), while daughter of Walmart founder and chairman of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art Alice Walton - valued at $US46 billion ($58 billion) - was deemed the richest woman in the world.

The richest person in Europe and fourth on the list is the boss of luxury goods firm LVMH, Bernard Arnault, who has a fortune of $US72bn.

The number of women on the list increased from 227 to 256.

Forbes magazine is revealing its annual list of billionaires.

The president has dropped more than 200 spots since previous year to No. 766 on the list, where he's tied with more than 20 others.

Trump also lost out around a billion dollars in net worth in 2017.

Forbes cites the stock market, New York City's struggling retail real estate market and the "president's polarizing personality" among some of the reasons for the financial decline. Gates, Zuckerberg, and Buffett are at least a $1 billion richer.
