McCabe has memos documenting his conversations with Trump

He previously did that by firing McCabe's superior, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, and Comey has rewarded that decision by leaking unhelpful things and testifying about Trump in a negative light.

Later in his statement, McCabe accused the president of driving an effort to destroy his reputation and hurt special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe was sacked Friday from the federal government, just two days before he was set to retire, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in a statement late Friday night.

Dowd went on to clarify that he was not calling for Mueller to be fired, but that he wants the investigation to end in light of "revelations" after McCabe's termination. The optics, the source says, are not good for Attorney General Sessions to fire a career civil servant who is frequently criticized by the president.

McCabe said the release of the findings against him was accelerated after he told congressional officials that he could corroborate Comey's accounts of Comey's conversations with the president.

Dowd initially said he was speaking on behalf of the president, in his capacity as the president's attorney - though he later walked that back, saying he was speaking in his personal capacity and not on the president's behalf. And they have been provided to the special counsel's office.

An upcoming inspector general's report is expected to conclude that McCabe, a Comey confidant, authorized the release of information to the media and was not forthcoming with the watchdog office as it examined the bureau's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Last night after firing McCabe, he tweeted that it was a great day for democracy.

"Ending the Mueller probe now would be insane and little short of treasonous", Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe tweeted.

"Every member of Congress, Republican and Democrat, needs to speak up in defense of the Special Counsel".

Sessions, in a statement, said an internal FBI investigation recommended dismissal over McCabe's alleged "lack of candour" about contacts he had with a former Wall Street Journal reporter in 2016.

Comey pushed back as well, tweeting: "Mr President, the American people will hear my story very soon". The tome hits stores on April 17.

Federer eases into quarter-finals at Indian Wells Masters
Meanwhile, No. 31 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber downed Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 7-6 (1) in their fourth-round match. Federer, the defending champion of the competition, won the French player, 7-5 6-4 in just an hour and 22 minutes.

He also reiterated that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russian Federation during the 2016 U.S. election. There ain't nothin' more powerful than the odor of mendacity [corruption]. Mr. Comey said Mr. Trump also asked him to shut down a criminal investigation into his former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn. McCabe, who was sacked just hours before he was set to retire, said his dismissal was a result of Trump's effort to to interfere with Mueller's probe. We have yet to see what's in the inspector general's report, and it's quite possible that it will undercut McCabe's credibility and prove his firing was warranted.

Comey's jab came after a series of Trump tweets in which the president bashed Comey and McCabe for what he described as "tremendous leaking, lying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State".

He reportedly met with Mueller's team and told them all he knows about Comey's ouster, according to Axios. Mr. Trump has taunted Mr. McCabe both publicly and privately, and Republican allies of the president have cast Mr. McCabe as the center of a "deep state" effort to undermine the Trump presidency.

McCabe began working at the FBI's NY field office in 1996, was promoted to a supervisor position at the FBI's headquarters in 2006, and held various jobs at the bureau until 2016, when he was named deputy director.

Former CIA director John Brennan dismissed Trump Saturday as "a disgraced demagogue" in a scathing response to the President.
