China's annual parliament reappoints Xi Jinping as president

As expected, Mr Xi won unanimous approval at the National People's Congress for his reappointment as China's president, and following changes in the constitution agreed earlier at the parliament, there are no limits on how many terms he can serve.

Mr Lee also wrote to Mr Li Keqiang to congratulate him on his re-appointment as the Chinese Premier.

The Central Committee also proposed writing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the national constitution alongside the schools of thought of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

He said that he looked forward to continue working with Mr Xi to take the countries' "strong bilateral relationship to greater heights".
