"Cynthia Nixon is a lifelong New Yorker and progressive activist who is running for governor to fight for a better, more equal NY", the donation website read. (She also has two children from a previous relationship.) The accompanying video talked about how she grew up in NYC with her single mother.

She said NY is "now the most unequal state in the entire country" with "both incredible wealth and extreme poverty". "Our leaders are letting us down", the 51-year-old revealed in the clip.

In the video, Nixon decries income inequality in a state that she says has "incredible wealth and extreme poverty" and the depressed upstate economy where she says half of all children are poor. "I've never lived anywhere else", she said.
