Koreas kick off talks on S. Korean art troupe's performance in Pyongyang

A joint statement issued after the two Koreas met on Tuesday said the South Korean artistic group will visit Pyongyang, North Korea's capital, from March 31 to April 4 and give two performances. It's a reciprocal gesture after North Korea sent an envoy of performers to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

It has been more than a decade since South Korean pop stars graced the stage of North Korea. While the official repertoire is yet to be confirmed, the unification ministry says Seoul and Pyongyang will continue discussions via the communications channel at the truce village of Panmunjeom, for further preparatory arrangements.

That includes ten K-pop artists, led by girl group Red Velvet (pictured above).

The South Korean art troupe will be comprised of some 160 members.

"While we're on the stage, I believe it will be hard to portray personal feelings towards denuclearization", said singer and record producer Yoon Sang, who led the South's delegation at Tuesday's talks. They will be directed by singer and producer Yoon Sang. Apparently they were also unable to agree on which songs the South Korean singers will sing, but they are optimistic an agreement can be reached.

For the first time since 2005, South Korea's famous music artists will hold a concert in North Korea.

The South Korean troupe will give two concerts, at the 1,500-seat East Pyongyang Grand Theatre and the Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Gymnasium, which can accommodate some 12,000 spectators, Yonhap news agency reported.

The deal is the latest step in the detente that began after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said at the beginning of the year that he meant to improve ties.
