Waymo unveils autonomous Jaguar I-Pace EV

The Alphabet-owed Waymo will use Jaguar's I-Pace, an SUV that many have already noted is one of the best rivals to Tesla's growing "ownership" of the electric vehicle market.

Jaguar's first ever electric vehicle is created to compete with the Tesla Model X and will travel from Brighton to Lands End on a single charge.

The partnership between Jaguar - owned by India's Tata Group, along with Land Rover - and Waymo is among the first instances of luxury brands combining with a tech company to push forward autonomous systems.

JLR and Waymo will "work together" to design and engineer these self-driving I-Paces.

Waymo previously announced its goal of having self-driving services available to the public this year.

The company started testing its self-driving minivans on public roads in Novi, Michigan in late 2017.

Meanwhile Waymo is testing its connected cars in locations across the United States, including Detroit, Michigan; Atlanta, Georgia; and Austin, Texas. The ultimate goal: "with Waymo as the driver, products tailored for every objective and every trip", said Waymo in a post on medium.

The all-electric I-Pace SUV will begin testing this year before deploying in 2020.
