California Governor Jerry Brown delivers his final state of the state address in Sacramento, California, U.S., January 25, 2018. It will not be a mission to round up women and children or detain people escaping violence and seeking a better life.

"In the meantime, the other two weightlifters of the delegation, along with the basketball players and officials, have already left Australia and are presently airborne for Cameroon", he said.

"The safety and welfare of those athletes from the Team Cameroon perspective is being taken very, very seriously, but we are obviously monitoring that situation with Team Cameroon", Mr Grevemberg added.

The Australian government has warned athletes against overstaying their visas. "And if they are thinking of doing anything other, I would encourage them not to".

Next up is Jamaica, another team with history against England - dramatically beating them to bronze at the last Games in Glasgow, with numerous current team's friends and family watching in the stands.

"With the condition of the home based athletes, I would say they need more money than the foreign based athletes".

In 2012, five Cameroonian male boxers, a female footballer and a male swimmer absconded from the London Olympic village.

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg on Wednesday said it was disappointing the athletes didn't show up when they were scheduled to compete.

"We've played them a lot of times in the last few years, they know how we play, we know how they play so it was hard work for both teams but we can put our game out there and give it a good go".
