Now, TechCrunch has reported on a new feature in the new Gmail: the ability to send confidential emails that expire.

The expiring emails feature works similarly to the expiring emails feature in ProtonMail as the email becomes unreadable after some time. Apparently, the new self-destructing emails feature which will allow the users to put a timestamp to their mails after which the email won't be available anymore has been termed as the "Confidential Mode" in Gmail.

Gmail will have a so-called Confidential Mode, a system created to secure the important emails that users send and that should not reach other mailboxes. Before sending an email, users will be able to specify a time frame post which, the email will be deleted from the recipient's inbox.

Earlier this week we delivered word of Google's forthcoming revamp of its Gmail web client, likely to officially debut at the I/O conference next month. The company is rumored to be including three layouts, a sidebar to view your calendar or notes, smart replies with prewritten responses and a snooze button to mute email threads until you're written to answer them.

If you screw up in a way that gets any sort of media attention, chances are you won't like what you see when you run a query for your name on Google. It further states that the recipient won't be able to forward, download or copy the email's contents, and attachments will be disabled. The design will feature elements of Google's Material design.

It'll also be possible to ask recipients to confirm their identities with a text-based passcode. Notably, it looks like recipients of the confidential email will have to log into their Google accounts once again to read the email.

US Republicans preside over mammoth budget blowout
If lawmakers renew tax cuts expected to expire under the new tax law, there would be "even larger increases in debt". The deficit is how much Washington's spending exceeds its revenues.

According to the tipster who spilled the news to TechCrunch, there's already a help page for the feature but it's now not populated with any information - suggesting that the self-destructing emails of the new Gmail design is under development but not ready for release at this point in time. It is speculated that this new feature is closely going to follow the update in Gmail's interface.

It's worth pointing out that Confidential Mode's protections will likely be relatively easy to circumvent.
