Israeli F-15s will stay in country after Tehran threatens Israel for attacking Iranian forces in Syria last week.

Things deteriorated two weeks ago when Israel bombed an Iranian air base in Damascus known as T4, killing 14 persons including 7 Iranian officers.

"Israel is headed for escalation", Yaacov Amidror, former national security adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told Tel Aviv radio station 103 FM.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday made plain he did not believe the "moderate" remarks made by Iran's foreign minister, and warned there was a "huge gap" between Mohammad Javad Zarif's comments in a US TV interview and the military aggression of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, which was "advancing an army against Israel". Iran officially vowed to retaliate.

Several pro-regime Syrian sources and a Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese outlet later indicated the likely Israeli involvement in the strike, which targeted the same airbase hit by Israel in February after an Iranian drone breached the Jewish state's airspace.

According to Daniel, Israel was bracing for a possible Iranian missile salvo or armed drone assault from Syria. Another strike, however, which was aimed specifically at the Iranian drone unit at the site and killed seven Iranian Guard troops, was only confirmed by an anonymous "senior military official" to the New York Times. Qassemi said the attack will be met with a response, emphasizing that Israel's "hit and run" policy shouldn't be tolerated anymore.
