Ireland bowl in inaugural Test against Pakistan

Rain washed out the whole of Friday's scheduled first day but a day later Malahide was bathed in sunshine, with grey clouds replaced by sunny blue skies as Ireland, from the moment of the toss, officially became the 11th nation to play men's Test cricket.

Shadab Khan and debutant Faheem Ashraf saved the day for Pakistan against Ireland as wickets kept falling at Malahide on Saturday. Shadab (52) and Faheem (61) helped the sinking ship with their unbeaten 109-run partnership.

Ireland's staggering 144-year wait for Test cricket was a memorable one to say the least after two Irish players smashed into Pakistan batsman Imam-ul-Haq in the opening ball of the match, leaving him dazed and confused on the floor.

Non-striker Imam, in scrambling to complete the run, found himself sandwiched between wicket-keeper Niall O´Brien and Tyrone Kane in a heavy collision.

Water rescue underway, possible gator attack
Rescue teams renewed their search at 7 a.m., Thursday, to find a teen who went missing while in the retention pond on Wednesday. Eric Wolfe, who called 911, said he ran inside to grab binoculars to see what was going on before calling authorities.

And off the next ball, Murtagh trapped Imam-ul-Haq with an inswinger.

They had to bat 280 overs (214 in the first innings) in Harare against India to achieve that and, while Ireland should not have to bat that long if they are to claim what would be a memorable draw, with a good forecast today Boyd Rankin should finally win his second Test cap and 10 other proud players - Craig Young, Stuart Thompson and James Shannon are expected to miss out - will, finally, win their first.

Once the familiarities were done, Murtagh was handed the new ball as the noise levels rose as an expectant crowd cheered him in to the crease for the first Test delivery in Ireland. But, in hindsight, given what the forecasts had predicted, both teams, especially Ireland, would be happy with the amount of cricket that eventually took place.

Boyd Rankin got Ireland's first wicket, while Tim Murtagh got the second.

Shafiq is the class act of this Pakistan batting line-up and he moved past his half-century and had moved on to 62 before he played a poor pull shot to a short ball from Rankin, with Andrew Balbirnie taking the catch at square leg to leave Pakistan on 153 for five.

But Haris Sohail quickly became the next victim as he was out for 31 and Babar Azam made 14 before Murtagh struck to reduce Pakistan to 104-4. That all changed after lunch though as the visitors lost four wickets in the second session of the day.

And when Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed (20) was caught by Stirling in the slips off Thompson, the tourists were 159 for six in this stand-alone match.
