DPRK announces dismantling of nuclear test site

Analysts say the country is hoping the move to allow on-site coverage will demonstrate how seriously it's taking denuclearization ahead of the upcoming first-ever US-North Korean summit.

The ministry added the dismantlement will be done according to this sequence: collapsing all tunnels with an explosion, blocking entrances, and removing all observation and research facilities, as well as the guard unit structures on the testing ground.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) announced Saturday that it will hold a ceremony for the dismantling of its nuclear test site on May 23-25, taking a step forward towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea said journalists from other countries, including the United States and South Korea, will be invited to cover the event, to "show in a transparent manner the dismantlement of the northern nuclear test ground to be carried out".

The sanctions would include a ban over Iran's oil exports as well as restrictions on investments in the country's energy sector. A number of French firms have have signed billion dollar agreements with Iran since the nuclear accord was signed in 2015.

Since space is limited, only journalists from China, Russia, South Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom will be allowed access, according to KCNA.

"The North will shut down a nuclear test site in the country's northern side to prove the vow to suspend nuclear test".

Following the release of three American prisoners Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced he will meet with Kim in Singapore on June 12.

In addition to pledging an end to unannounced missile testing, North Korea said its "national nuclear arms program was complete" according to the United Nations agency.
