Rose McGowan, More Celebs React to Harvey Weinstein's Arrest

Weinstein, 66, has been accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct and has been investigated by the New York Police Department, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the New York Attorney General's Office, the Los Angeles Police Department and United Kingdom authorities.

Equally important, McGowan said, is that the MeToo movement will help women who aren't famous, well-off movie stars, like many of Weinstein's accusers, but less powerful women without a voice. The most serious rape charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Since the New York Times and the New Yorker published accusations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein in October, over one hundred women have come forward with allegations.

Weinstein used nondisclosure agreements to confidentially settle claims with women.

The powerful mogul became an outcast last fall after investigations from the NY Times and the New Yorker revealed a history of intimidating women and allegations of sexual assault.

The internet is rejoicing over finally seeing Harvey Weinstein in handcuffs

Weinstein's attorney, Ben Brafman, released a statement to ET following the arraignment, which reads: "Mr. Weinstein has always maintained that he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual behavior with anyone".

It's expected that Weinstein's bond will be set at $2 million, CNN reports. Officials have ordered him to wear a tracking device and remain in NY or CT.

Earlier, he entered a police station carrying books that harkened to his show business roots: one on the Broadway songwriting team of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and another about famed film director Elia Kazan.

But a number of lawyers questioned whether Brafman would be able to cross-examine Weinstein's accusers aggressively in the face of overwhelming public sentiment in their favour and against Weinstein.

These are the first criminal charges against Weinstein, who has also been the subject of several civil suits. However, she admitted that it was still a "very good feeling".

Even still, Cohen contacted high ranking Russian-contact Dmitry Peskov asking for "assistance" in closing the Trump Tower deal. His Washington hotel in a former Post Office building brought in more than $40m in 2017, its first full year in operation.

"I, and so many of Harvey Weinstein's survivors, had given up hope that our rapist would be held accountable by law", she wrote.

In 2017, Weinstein was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. That's the most disgusting part of it, and that's why he's been able to do this for so long to so many women: "people give up, and then they feel like it's their fault". He sought treatment for sex addiction at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, the New York Times reported. "It was rape and sexual assault".

London's Metropolitan Police have said they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Weinstein, while prosecutors in Los Angeles said in February they were reviewing three accusations of sexual assault against him.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. had been under pressure over his 2015 decision not to pursue a complaint by model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, who said Weinstein had groped her without her consent. The district attorney said his decision was based on the merits of the case. In March, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered a review of Vance's decision not to press charges.

According to The New York Times, Weinstein has until Wednesday "to decide whether he plans to testify in front of the grand jury".

Anthony Bourdain, who is dating Argento, also reacted to Weinstein's arrest on social media.
