It was a special day for Mexican football as the national team stunned defending champions Germany 1-0 in their opening game of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Moscow on Sunday.

PSV winger Hirving Lozano scored the only goal of the game when he broke down the left, cut inside past a weak challenge from Mesut Ozil and fired past Manuel Neuer at the near post.

Hirving Lozano stunned Germany as he broke the deadlock in Mexico's opening match in Russian Federation against Joachim Low's lacklustre side on Sunday afternoon.

"Whenever you play against world powers, champions and potential champions, it's a little special", Ochoa added.

Low, who told Reus he would "play in the important matches", handed the injury prone Borussia Dortmund midfielder his World Cup debut in the 60th minute.

Spain went on to lose against Chile in their next match too, meaning they were eliminated before even playing their final fixture. They qualified from the group stage but exited after a 3-2 loss to Austria in the next phase.

Pogba gives France the victory over Australia
France coach Didier Deschamps said: "I'm not going to complain about VAR today because it was in our favour". He acknowledged the need for improvement before France take on Peru in their next match.

Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa made a key save in the 39th minute - one of nine in the match - from a Toni Kroos free kick and stressed that the surprise three points for Mexico was historic.

Lozano's agent will surely be a wanted man after Mexico beat the odds to become the first team to record a victory over Germany in their World Cup opener since Algeria in 1982.

"The game against Saudi Arabia was actually a wake-up call".

Less than a year ago, Germany and Mexico met in Russian Federation.

The reigning world champions struggled to cope with El Tri's pace and duly conceded on 35 minutes due to a swift counterattack finished off by Hirving Lozano. Here's Osorio on his tactics against Germany: "We always thought of having two quick players on the wing". But when Lozano scored a goal in the 35th minute, the Mexicans jumping in jubilation set off quake detectors.

"We had a couple of shots on goal, but somehow it seemed jinxed, " Loew said. "In the second half we were able to press match but Mexico also pulled back".

Former Trump aide ordered to jail after bail revoked
Trump has sought to distance his campaign and himself from Manafort . "Didn't know Manafort was the head of the Mob", he said. He is scheduled to go to trial in Alexandria, Virginia, on July 25 and in Washington , D.C., in September.

Juan Carlos Osorio's side had other ideas, however, holding their own against the favourites' fearsome but slowing midfield and finding space at the back and seeking to end 33 years without a win against Germany.

Kimmich's charging runs far up the field can be a blessing and a curse for Germany.

Mexico was the deserving victor on Sunday, using a goal from Hirving "Chucky" Lozano to give El Tri the lead in the 35th minute that held up. Francois Omam-Biyik scored one of the most famous goals in African football history to win the match.

Germany had the more possession but it was Mexico who were more creative.

They played a high line against the pacy quartet of Javier Hernandez, Lozano, Carlos Vela and Miguel Layun.
