United States President Donald Trump ordered an end to the separation of migrant children from their parents on the U.S. border on Wednesday, reversing a tough policy under heavy pressure from his fellow Republicans, Democrats and the global community.

"The thousands of children who have spent days, weeks, and months without the love and support of their parents deserve nothing less", Crowley added.

"Instead of pushing legislation that endorses the Trump administration's policy of detaining families, House Republicans should join Democrats in calling for an end to the policy and in making sure we reunite the families that have been ripped apart", he said.

"We're keeping families together, and this will solve that problem".

The executive order announced a major chance on who will handle detentions.

Because any illegal border crossing is prosecuted, parents and children are separated during the legal process.

What court orders is he talking about? As many as 60 of these unaccompanied minors can be in the system in OR at any one time.

At the same time, the Justice Department went to court in an attempt to overturn a decades-old settlement that limits to 20 days the amount of time migrant children can be locked up with their families.

Zenica is a town about 70 kilometers (45 miles) northwest of Sarajevo, Bosnia's capital. Kosovo gained independence from Serbia in 2008, however, Serbia still reject this.

Trump and other administration officials, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, defended the policy up to the last minute, insisting that they enacted it in part because of a 2015 court order that cited a 1997 settlement known as the Flores agreement that says children can not be held in long-term detention, even with their parents.

While liberal critics have expressed frustration that she has not done more to temper her father's conservative agenda, Ivanka Trump has made clear that she sees limitations to her role. Vice-President Mike Pence and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who has emerged as the face of the White House policy, were both present for the signing of the order on Wednesday.

Also, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and the heads of other agencies are ordered to find or construct facilities to house the detained families. It orders the attorney general to prioritize the handling of cases involving families.

"Huddling with the GOP at the Capitol on Tuesday evening, Trump stopped short of giving a full-throated endorsement to immigration legislation meant to unite the moderate and conservative wings of the House Republican conference".

"We will be going through Congress. If we don't do it, you will be inundated with people and you really won't have a country", Trump said. The language also leaves room to separate children from parents if it's best for the child's welfare.

In many cases, these adults are the parents of the child border crossers, but in some circumstances, the children are being trafficked and smuggled across the border by illegal aliens looking to be released into the United States.

"It is still very early and we are awaiting further guidance on the matter", said Brian Marriott, senior director of communications at HHS's Administration of Children and Families.

"Our focus is on continuing to provide quality services and care to the minors in HHS/ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) funded facilities and reunifying minors with a relative or appropriate sponsor as we have done since HHS inherited the program". "Reunification is always the ultimate goal".

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, however, tweeted that to say immigrant children are detained in the U.S.

What's the reaction to the executive order?

The executive order seeks more authority to detain families together until the end of their immigration proceedings.

Lost amid the furor over the Trump immigration policy that separated families and imprisoned asylum seekers is a much younger and smaller group of 30 to 60 migrant teenagers already caught up and often locked up in Oregon.

Meanwhile, the document Trump signed won't reunite the more than 2,300 children now separated from their parents, whose plight Trump admitted privately this week was deeply damaging to him politically.

Fiery Democratic leaders from Vermont to New Jersey to Texas met President Donald Trump's executive order to stop dividing immigrant families with deep skepticism, promising waves of protests, border visits and congressional oversight to shine new light on the Republican administration's immigration tactics.

Reid also reports that Sessions is expected to immediately ask a federal California judge to modify the Flores consent decree to permit the government to detain families together throughout the entire prosecution and deportation processes.
