To refer to it by its full name, that's the "Sonoma-Marin Fair World's Ugliest Dog Contest".

While older and smaller dogs have traditionally been the best performers, this year's World's Ugliest Dog prize went to a three-year-old, 125-pound (57-kilos) Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha.

According to reports, the dogs are judged on more than just good-looks, with audience reaction, first impression and unusual attributes all being taken into consideration.

Dogs with hairless bodies and lolling tongues will flaunt their imperfections as they compete to win the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most dogs have been adopted from shelters and rescue homes.
