Five killed in California plane crash

Five people on board the small airplane were killed but nobody on the ground was hurt when the plane crashed in the Southern California parking lot, authorities said.

No one was hurt on the ground as the twin-engine Cessna 414 aircraft clipped an unoccupied vehicle, but "fortunately, that person was inside the store shopping at the time of impact", Orange County Fire Authority Capt.

It was not clear if any people on the ground were injured in the incident.

Fire authorities were called about the crash around 12:30 p.m. local time.

The plane was registered to a San Francisco company and had flown from the East bay suburb of Concord, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records.

The victims include Navid Hakimi, 32, of Los Angeles; Floria Hakimi, 62, of Danville; Nasim Ghanadan, 29, of Alamo; Scott Shepherd, 53, and Lara Shepherd, 42, both of Diablo, according to the Orange County Coroner.

"It actually came down in front of us".

"And somebody - one of the patrons - yelled, and they looked up and saw the plane coming down towards the parking lot", agency spokesman Steve Concialdi said. It lost control and it just fell straight down.
