With September fulfilling the promises of peak hurricane season, residents are reminded to take the appropriate precautions for hurricane season - such as having emergency kits ready and knowing your hurricane plan - even if the storms are not now projected to hit Northwest Florida. "Remember, the storm is still five days out, and changes to the track can and likely will occur".

"This storm is too powerful and its path is too uncertain to take any chances", South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said in issuing his state's emergency declaration.

The National Hurricane Center's breakdown of storm strength says Category 3 storms can bring "devastating" destruction.

The Ministry said the Emergency Broadcast station on 100.1fm is in operation, and official information will continue to be released by the Bermuda Weather Service, the Emergency Measures Organisation, the Ministry of National Security and the Department of Communications.

This enhanced satellite image made available by NOAA shows Tropical Storm Florence third from right in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday Sept. 8 2018 at 3 p.m. EDT. At right off the coast of Africa is Tropical Storm Helene and second from right is Trop

Helene is moving west-northwest at 13 miles per hour, packing maximum-sustained winds of 85 miles per hour. And there will be little wind shear to disrupt the thunderstorm development at its core.

September 09-The state of SC is preparing for some level of impact from Hurricane Florence, Gov. Henry McMaster announced Sunday.

Hours before Isaac became a hurricane, Helene strengthened into one.

It had maximum winds of 85mph with higher gusts, with tropical storm force winds extending up to 125 miles from the storms centre.

The pair have shared pictures on social media of them posing as McDonald's models, which has been shared more than 900,000 times. With the help of a couple of friends, the mission was complete and now nearly two months later, the poster is STILL UP.

Tropical-storm-force winds could reach the coastline as early as Wednesday night, at which point all outdoor preparations should be completed.

"Because you may not - you may not - be coming home for several days", McMaster said, directing people to SCEMD.org. It has the potential to dump unthinkable amounts of rain over a large area in the Mid-Atlantic and perhaps into the Northeast. Where exactly the zone of heaviest rain sets up is a big uncertainty. Right now, the storm is expected to stay out in the Atlantic, never coming near the United States. The new American model is not as wet but shows widespread amounts of 5 to 10 inches or more up the Interstate 95 corridor in North Carolina through Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

Parts of the Mid-Atlantic, especially from Virginia to Pennsylvania, have seen 150 to 300 percent of their normal rainfall since May. A Category 4 storm packs winds of 130 miles per hour (209 kph) or more and has the potential for catastrophic damage.

Helene - now just southeast of the Cabo Verde islands off the African coast - had winds of 85 miles per hour, and was expected to turn northwest and then north into the open Atlantic by midweek, the NHC said.

He later posted videos showing himself verbally confronting a CNN reporter as well as Republican Senator Marco Rubio in a hallway. Twitter is permanently banning right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his " Infowars " show for abusive behavior.

Helene is expected to turn toward the north into the open central Atlantic, where it will quickly find itself over cool water.

The center says it is still too early to predict the hurricane's exact path, but a huge coastal area from northern Florida to North Carolina has been urged to remain on guard for the possibility of a hit by Florence as a major hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center said Florence had re-strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Sunday as it was located about 710 miles (1,142 kilometers) southeast of Bermuda.
