The man's name is Robert Bowers, according to sources cited by Pittsburgh-based reporter Andy Sheehan with local CBS affiliate KDKA.

Bowers's social media postings showed him a virulent anti-Semite, who railed against Jewish people, using the vilest ethnic slurs, as he had yelled out during the attack.

Robert Bowers, the suspect in the massacre of ten people at a Pittsburgh synagogue during Shabbat services on Saturday morning, posted on social media about HIAS shortly before the attack, writing: "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people".

Information on the attack - which Pittsburgh officials say is being investigated as a federal hate crime - was still emerging Saturday afternoon.

The synagogue is located in the tree-lined residential neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, about 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and the hub of Pittsburgh's Jewish community.

Police say Bowers was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and three handguns.

A suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody, police in Pittsburgh said later in the day Saturday.

FACT CHECK: Saudi Arabia's changing narrative over journalist's murder
The US president will meet CIA chief Gina Haspel , who has just returned from Turkey to review intelligence about the killing. President Donald Trump has said that if anyone in Saudi Arabia knew about what had happened, "it would be" the crown prince.

"It is a very horrific crime scene".

Also in September, Orsini said that while Pittsburgh Jews are not at a greater risk than other communities, "I think it is important for people to realize there are groups out there that would like to see harm to the Jewish community... there are concerns that I have".

The Pennsylvania attorney general's office said it was told by victims that a brit milah - a ritual circumcision ceremony at which a baby boy also receives his Hebrew name - was also taking place, though law enforcement officials later said no children were among the dead or wounded. Bowers, who was in fair condition at a hospital, was charged late Saturday with 29 federal counts, including hate crimes and weapons offenses.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were also reportedly responding to the scene.

- A registered voter with "no affiliation" in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Bowers, in one of his social media posts, had targeted President Donald Trump and accused him of being a "globalist" who made no efforts to stop the "infestation" of the United States by Jews.

The synagogue door was unlocked on the Sabbath "because people are coming for services, and the bell would be ringing constantly".

Anti-Semitism has been on the rise in the United States, with related incidents and instances shooting up by 57% in 2017 over the previous year, the league has said in a recent report.

World’s Oldest Intact Shipwreck Found at the Bottom of the Black Sea
The hull of the boat is still intact, with the deck of the ship still lined with oars and the vessel's cargo hold still sealed up. An announcement of the discovery, made by the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (MAP), first appeared in the Guardian .

He later flatly condemned the "evil" attack in remarks at the National Future Farmers of America Convention and Expo in IN on Saturday.

Although Bowers posted a number of anti-semitic sentiments, he did not appear to make any direct threats on the platform, although one post relating to the American non-profit HIAS appears to be an oblique threat. "Our minds cannot comprehend the cruel hate and the twisted malice that could cause a person to unleash such bad violence during a baby naming ceremony".

People in Pittsburgh, carrying candles, jammed a street intersection in Squirrel Hill amid a light rain to express their grief for the victims through prayers and singing in a multi-religious gathering organized by Dor Hadash and Allderdice High School students.

Police departments in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, DC announced that they dispatched additional security forces to synagogues across the cities.

Michael Eisenberg, the immediate past president of the Tree of Life, said synagogue officials had not gotten any threats that he knew of before the shooting.
