Former Cowboy Dez Bryant signing deal with Saints

When news broke that New Orleans was working out Bryant and two other receivers, it felt like the flawless match from the start.

The Saints, however, kept a close eye on the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Bryant after his release.

Dez Bryant #88 of the Dallas Cowboys walks off the field after their 20-17 win over the Oakland Raiders during their National Football League game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on December 17, 2017 in Oakland, California.

Many have called Bryant "washed up" and "old", but his numbers last season with the Dallas Cowboys say otherwise.

Rapoport later reported the Saints would restructure left tackle Terron Armstead's contract - turning the remainder of his $10.2 million base salary into a signing bonus - to create cap space for Bryant's signing.

But there's no denying Bryant's track record since being drafted in the first round (24th overall) in 2010. At the same time, New Orleans is without deep threat Ted Ginn Jr., who is now on injured reserve and won't be eligible to return until the final few weeks of the season, if he's ready by then.

Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler and 2014 first-team All-Pro, should immediately contribute to a receiving corps featuring Michael Thomas, Tre'Quan Smith, and not much else.

One of the strongest teams in the NFC may have just recruited one of the most intriguing free agents on the market.

Dez Bryant is officially an ex-Cowboy.

Last season with Dallas, Bryant caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns.

The Saints are rolling the dice a bit that Bryant will be a good locker room fit with a team that is on such a good run. "He goes up and attacks the ball better than I've seen anyone".

"Not at all. Ever since I got here, Dez was nothing but a help for me", Elliott said. "He's definitely a special player and I'm glad he got picked up and I'm glad something worked out for him".

Said coach Jason Garrett: "Dez is a great player". New Orleans plays at Dallas on November 29. "I know he can still contribute to a team and I'm glad it's going to be us".

"That's big for him".
